Taylor SwiftTaylor Swift's Eras Tour has officially landed in Toronto for a magical 6 nights! Yippeeeee!!!
Since we're big Swifties here at BuzzFeed Canada — and very much in tune with Eras Tour fan theories — we decided to predict the unpredictable: WHICH SURPRISE SONGS WILL SHE SING FOR THESE LAST 9 SHOWS?
Of course, there are sooo many songs she could choose, for a multitude of reasons. But since each show has 2 surprise songs, and she's been playing mashups, that means there are 4 possibilities each show, and 36 surprise songs left in total (although she very well may not play mashups — we have no idea).
Soooo, we're gonna give you 28 options from our research (and longtime Swiftie status). In no particular order, here are some songs we think Taylor might choose as surprise songs:
1. "Only The Young"
This song isn't on any particular album, but came out with the release of Taylor's 2020 documentary Miss Americana. She's never sung this live before, EVER... so why would she sing it now?
Well, Taylor has spoken about how the 2018 midterm elections inspired this song, and the lyrics can easily be tied to politics. And they're so relevant today that, after the election, streams for this song surged to their highest peak in 2 years.
So since she hasn't yet responded to Donald Trump's presidential win, and this is her first Eras Tour stop back since the election, it would sort of make sense for Taylor to sing this song as a statement to fans. You know, to keep fighting and all that. (Except for the fact that she'd be playing it in Canada, but the whole world will be listening anyway.)
2. "Long Live"
I'd assume Taylor will sing "Long Live" near the end of The Eras Tour, as the song is essentially a love letter to the fans.
Taylor did have this on The Eras Tour setlist, but it's not on it anymore. She's since played this twice in surprise song mashups, but I wouldn't be surprised if it comes back again.
3. "Cassandra"
This one's simple: it's the only song from her newest album, The Tortured Poets Department, that she hasn't played live yet. And it's literally a piano song (and an absolutely incredible one at that), so why wouldn't she?
4. "mad woman"
You knew this was coming... this song, from folklore, is super beloved amongst fans, and has quite a few lyric and sonic similarities to "Cassandra." They're like sister songs in my brain. So fans have been dying for a "Cassandra" and "mad woman" mashup.
Plus, she has only played this songonce on The Eras Tour — in April 2023, which was pretty much a whole lifetime ago.
5. "Girl At Home"
OK, guys, this song is an absolute BOP. It's such an underrated Redtrack, and I'm genuinely shocked to learn she has never played this at The Eras Tour. This would make a killer guitar song.
6. "That's When (feat. Keith Urban)"
This Fearlesstrack will probably be a surprise song for one main reason: she hasn't sung it at The Eras Tour yet. Not my personal fave, so please don't save it for N6, Taylor.
7. "Bye Bye Baby (From The Vault)"
This Fearless vault track has also never been played on The Eras Tour — or ever, for that matter.
8. "It's Nice To Have A Friend"
Taylor played this song in a mashup with "dorothea" during The Eras Tour's European leg, but I'm pretty much 100% certain she's gonna play it again — specifically in Toronto.
My reasoning is simple: she featured a Toronto children's choir in the actual recording of song. So how adorable would it be for her to sing it in Toronto? It just makes SENSE.
9. "Picture To Burn"
This may seem like a bit of an odd choice, but she's only sung this one as a surprise song once — and that was back in July 2023. So considering it's one of her first big hits, I would definitely not be surprised if we hear this again in a mashup.
10. "The Way I Loved You"
This is a huge fan fave, so it's surprising to hear she's only played this once at The Eras Tour. And that was in a mashup this past May. So I'd bet this one will come back for another round, just because of how iconic it is.
11. "Back to December"
As much as I'd love to say she'll play this in Toronto, it's pretty much inevitable for her to choose this one as a surprise song for Vancouver, since all three shows are in December.
And she's also only played this once before — in July 2023, yet again — and never in a mashup! So I bet we can expect this for Vancouver.
12. "I Bet You Think About Me (From The Vault)"
Maybe this is wishful thinking (uhhh, I need to stop quoting Taylor lyrics in my BuzzFeed posts...), but I really love this song, and I genuinely think it has so many incredible mashup possibilities.
Besides, we know how much Taylor loves Red (Taylor's Version), and she hasn't performed this one since April 2023 — which was her first and only live performance of this song.
13. "Getaway Car"
I know she's performed this one as a surprise song quite a few times — four, to be exact — but one super important note: she hasn't sung it on this leg of the tour yet. The last time she performed it was in Europe, in July of this year.
"Getaway Car" is, like, THE fan favourite. I'm still surprised it's not on the actual setlist. And again, wishful thinking — but she knows we'd all LOVE to hear it just one more time.
14. "The Manuscript"
As the final song off her most-recent album — and a beautiful, reflective album about endings — it's only fitting for her to sing "The Manuscript" again. Perhaps she'll use it to close the Toronto set of shows, or even The Eras Tour entirely. If she does, she'll definitely have fans sobbing.
15. "Renegade" (by Big Red Machine, featuring Taylor Swift)
Yes, this is not technically a Taylor song, but it may as well be — she sings the whole song! It's certainly a deep cut, but she has never played this live before, so I just know hard-core fans would die if they heard this live (myself included).
16. "So It Goes..."
I'm shocked that Taylor Swift hasn't done this one in a mashup yet — the only time she played it at The Eras Tour was in November of LAST year.
Plus, with reputation(Taylor's Version) looming, how could she NOT?
17. "How Did It End?"
This happens to be one of my all-time favourite Taylor Swift songs, but aside from that, let's point out the obvious: this song literally has "end" in its title. Which means it's a perfect song to play as we near the END of The Eras Tour.
18. "seven"
I saw a commenter on TikTok say this, and I think it's seriously a genius idea — we could totally expect her to play this on the seventh-last show of The Eras Tour. Which, if I'm counting correctly, is the third Toronto show.
By the way, she has only played this as a surprise song once as well — and it was pre-mashups, in June 2023. In Pittsburgh, because there's a lyric about Pennsylvania in this song. Clever Taylor.
19. "tolerate it"
I'm sort of adding this one as a last-ditch effort to hear it live, because she removed it from the setlist when she added the newTTPD set. But I can dream, can't I?
Plus, she played "The Archer" and "Long Live" as surprise songs after removing them from the setlist, so can't we expect the same treatment for "tolerate it"? I'm dying to hear her play this acoustically on piano.
20. "You're On Your Own Kid"
This might just be THE most popular surprise song ever — it's the song that started the whole friendship bracelets trend, and it's also just a beautiful, classic track 5 that reflects on Taylor's whole career.
Fans (myself included) were all pretty shocked when it didn't make the setlist. So since she hasn't played it on this leg of the tour yet, I'd bet a ton of money she'll do this again, one last time.
21. "Christmas Tree Farm"
Taylor Swift released this song during the 2019 holiday season, and she's never played it live before. Fans love it, and as we get closer to Christmas, she might decide to play it. My guess is during one of the Vancouver shows, since those are in December.
22. "New Year's Day"
Okay, another potential reach... but wouldn't it be super cool if she played this one given that her shows are at the end of the year? Plus, again, she hasn't performed it on this leg of the tour yet.
23. "tis the damn season"
This is another song that used to be on the setlist and has since been removed, so it's very possible she'll skip it... but again! Timely!
24. "Forever & Always"
We haven't heard this song at The Eras Tour in a long time — specifically, since her run in Australia in February of this year.
"Forever & Always" is a super fun song, fans LOOOOVE it, and she's got both piano and guitar versions of this song on Fearless (Taylor's Version). Which means there really are SO many ways she could spin this!
25. "Forever Winter"
This one is also very iffy given its heavy subject matter, so I won't be shocked if it goes down as one of the only songs never played at The Eras Tour.
I simply think this would make an incredible surprise song, regardless of the fact that it'll be winter in Canada. And fans seem to really resonate with this song, so it could be a heartwarming one to play.
26. "Better Than Revenge"
I'm hesitant about including this song simply because of that controversial lyric change, but simply put, Swifties really love belting out this one, and Taylor seems to really love it as well. She's never played it in a mashup before, and only played it once on The Eras Tour so far — which was in Nov. 2023, over a year ago! It's time we heard it again live.
27. "Wonderland"
OK, so this is sort of a joke — but it would genuinely be hilarious if Taylor performed Wonderland in Toronto or Vancouver. Because, you know, Canada's Wonderland (which, TBH, she very likely has no clue exists).
But in all seriousness, I wouldn't be surprised if she did play this one. She's played it twice as a surprise song, the last time being in July 2023. And it's super fun, so why not?
28. "Clean"
I KNOW, WE JUST GOT THIS ONE. And she's played this a million times on The Eras Tour. I'm just saying, we ALL wanna hear it again — if it's not in your top 13 favourite Taylor songs, you're simply wrong. It works perfectly as a surprise song, too, especially on piano.
